Saskatchewan Law Review

Benjamin Ironstand is a third-year law student at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Law. He is of mixed Anishinaabe-European descent and is a member of Tootinaowaziibeeng First Nation in Manitoba.

With a Bachelor of Indigenous Education from the First Nations University of Canada, Benjamin taught high school before moving to British Columbia where he supported First Nations to negotiate and implement self-governance agreements in the area of education.

While in law school Benjamin continues to work as a consultant supporting First Nations and he has also worked as a TA for the Kwayeskastasowin course offered to first-year students. In his final term, he will be attending the Intensive Program in Indigenous Lands, Resources & Governments at Osgoode Hall Law School.

He has accepted an articling position at MLT Aikins in Regina. He aims to advance Indigenous self-governance and economic development through his work in law and advocacy.

Besides his academic and professional pursuits, Benjamin enjoys spending time with his wife and son and spending time on the land.
